Confirmation

The Catechism explains that "by the sacrament of Confirmation, [the baptized] are more perfectly bound to the Church and are enriched with a special strength of the Holy Spirit. Hence they are, as true witnesses of Christ, more strictly obliged to spread and defend the faith by word and deed."  The sacrament of confirmation is celebrated for those n grades 6,7, or 8.  Preparations are made through classes at the parish, meetings, with the sponsor, and events determined by the pastor.  Sponsors must be adult Catholics at least 20 years of age, not a parent of the candidate, and generally not a sibling of the candidate.  The students will be required to complete a report on the patron saint they choose and they will write a letter to the Bishop asking to receive the sacrament.  They will also complete a lengthy worksheet in cooperation with their parents demonstrating their grasp of the Catholic Faith.  Those eligible for confirmation are those who have been baptized, received their First Holy Communion, and attend Mass regularly.   Registration forms for candidate for the sacrament of Confirmation and their sponsor are available here.
